Voting is Open for the 2021 Board Member Elections

Members of the rank Investigator or rank inferior thereto, and all annuitants have the opportunity to participate in the election for members of the Retirement Board of the Policemen’s Annuity and Benefit Fund of Chicago.

For a 3-Year Term: From 12/01/2021 through 11/30/ 2024

1. Investigator, Patrolman, or rank equivalent thereto Member

The term of one (1) elected member of the Retirement Board of the Policemen’s Annuity and Benefit Fund (Board), for any active member of the rank of Investigator, Patrolman, or rank equivalent thereto shall expire November 30, 2021. According to the Illinois Pension Code, one (1) member of the Board is to be elected from among the active members of the Chicago Police Department (CPD) of the rank of Investigator, Patrolman or rank equivalent thereto to fill the position for a 3-year term from December 1, 2021 through November 30, 2024.

2. Annuitant Member

The term of one (1) elected member of the Board, to represent the Annuitants of the Fund shall expire November 30, 2021.  According to the Illinois Pension Code, one (1) member is to be elected from among any adult Annuitant who is not under conservatorship to fill the position for a 3-year term from December 1, 2021 through November 30, 2024.

Persons entitled to vote in the Annuitant member election include: (a) any adult Annuitants who are not under conservatorship; (b) conservators of Annuitants; and (c) legal guardians of children and/or Annuitants when the parent or stepparent of such children are themselves not Annuitants.

 

PETITIONS


1. Investigator, Patrolman, or rank equivalent thereto Member:

Four candidates submitted to the Fund signed petitions for candidacy. After verification of the signatures and Board approval on the sufficiency of the petitions, all 4 (four) candidates are approved to run for the position.

2. Annuitant Member:

Two candidates submitted to the Fund signed petitions for candidacy. After verification of the signatures and Board approval on the sufficiency of the petitions, both candidates are approved to run for the position.

 

ELECTION DETAILS


The election is being conducted from October 5-25, 2021 to fill the terms detailed above, and is being held in accordance with the rules adopted by the Board on May 27, 2021.  An independent election firm is administering the elections and all balloting will be conducted online or telephonically. You will receive your individual voting credentials in letter sent to your address of record.

Benefit Eligibility Affidavit Deadline: February 15th

Attention Annuitants:

If you were an annuitant prior to April 15, 2019 you should have received a 2019 Continuing Benefit Eligibility Affidavit. If you signed and returned the Affidavit, your eligibility is confirmed and there is nothing more for you to do.

If you are one of the 95 annuitants who has not yet returned a signed and notarized copy of your affidavit, please call the payroll division of the Fund as soon as possible at 312-235-4595.

If the Fund does not receive your completed affidavit by February 15, 2021 your annuity will be suspended. The link below is an example of the form for informational purposes only. When you contact the Fund, we can provide you with a copy of your specific letter.

Covid-19 virus pandemic impact on Fund operations

NOTIFICATION: FUND OPERATIONS DUE TO COVID-19 VIRUS PANDEMIC

FUTURE BOARD AND INVESTMENT COMMITTEE MEETINGS
Pursuant to the Illinois Government Emergency Administration Act, Public Act 101-0640, the purpose of which is to provide government with the tools it needs to continue to serve the People of the State of Illinois and to better respond to the statewide public health emergency caused by the outbreak of COVID-19:
• The Board and Investment committee meetings of the Retirement Board of the Policemen’s Annuity and Benefit Fund of Chicago will be conducted by audio conference.
• A quorum of the Board of Trustees of the Fund will participate via audio conference.
• The Agenda for the meeting will comprise of essential matters to the Fund. The Fund will maintain a verbatim recording of the meeting. Members of the public are encouraged to participate in the meeting via audio conference.

OFFICE OPERATIONS
PABF’s office is closed to walk-in members and the public until further notice. The Fund remains operating Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm.

We expect all benefit payments to be processed as normal. You may reach our staff via phone, email and fax. We are responding to calls and emails as soon as possible.

We continue to pursue every avenue to provide the service that our members expect during this national health emergency. Stay healthy and thank you for your patience and understanding.
